Relatives hope camera provides clues to Bourne’s murder

Relatives of Lloyd Bourne who was gunned down on Saturday night, are hoping that a camera located in the area would be able to provide investigators with some useful clues. Bourne’s mother Donna Harris told Stabroek News last evening that she informed the police earlier in the day that there was a camera located on a building not far from where the shooting occurred. The woman said that the investigators made a commitment that they will follow up on the information she provided.

Police said in a press release that around 20:30 hrs the 27-year-old resident,

of James and Barr streets, Albouystown, was standing on the road at Cooper Street, Albouystown, when a motor vehicle drove by from which shots were discharged.

Bourne was struck to his chest and later pronounced dead on arrival at a private hospital.

Two persons who have been arrested to assist with investigations remain in police custody.

Harris told Stabroek News she is getting various versions of the circumstances surrounding her son’s death while noting that none of them involved any gunman in a car. She said that in her inquiries no one has made mention of a car to her.

She said one version is that her son was at a table when the man he was with got up and started shooting before pointing the gun at him and pulling the trigger. Another version she said was that he was at the table and people around just heard when a gun shot.

Relatives said that they are baffled as to why anyone would want to target Bourne as he had no known enemies and according to what they know had no problems with anyone.

Bourne lost his reputed wife to cancer a few weeks back. They shared an 11-month-old child together.

A post-mortem examination will be performed on his remains tomorrow and he is expected to be buried on Monday.
