Taxi driver who sprayed poison in wife’s face, ordered to do community service

A taxi driver, who became upset when his wife asked to borrow his phone and sprayed her in the face with a poisonous substance has been ordered to perform community service.

The driver, Vaughn Rahim, 21, of Charity, Essequibo Coast was charged with unlawfully assaulting his reputed wife Virona Lall.

He was not represented and pleaded guilty to the charge read to him by Magistrate Sunil Scarce.

According to the police, Rahim was at home spraying his yard with a poisonous substance when Lall asked to borrow his phone.

Rahim pelted the phone on the ground and when Lall asked him if that was the way to treat his phone, he became angrier and sprayed her face and neck with the poison that was in the spray can.

Lall made a report to the Charity Police Station and Rahim was arrested and charged.

After considering the matter, the magistrate ordered Rahim to perform community service for 3 months starting from next Sunday. He was told to report to the Station Sergeant at the Charity Police Station at 2 pm.
