Family says cops not doing enough to find missing miner

Relatives believe that the police are not doing enough to find missing miner Troy Greenidge, who left his home a month ago and has not been seen since. The police, who have so far been unsuccessful in finding Greenidge, are calling on anyone with information in connection with his disappearance to contact the nearest police station.

Greenidge, 27, of John Fernandes Housing Scheme, went missing on Wednesday October 15, when he left to collect his salary from his employer at Diamond at about 7:30am. A formal missing persons report was made on October 18.

‘A’ Division Commander Clifton Hicken, during a telephone interview, told Stabroek News that the police have not gotten any leads on Greenidge. Nevertheless, he noted that the investigation of the man’s disappearance is continuing. The commander also called on anyone who has information that can lead to the whereabouts of Greenidge to assist the police.

Greenidge’s mother, Seeta Persaud, told Stabroek News that she believes more can be done by the police to find her son. She said that nearly a month has elapsed and the situation has remained the same. She also called on anyone who knows anything that can lead to Greenidge’s whereabouts to come forward.

The father of one had been a prime witness during the preliminary inquiry related to the murder of Agricola teen Shaquille Grant, who was allegedly shot by police during a police exercise in that community in 2012.

Although Persaud said she has received information that her son might have been beaten to death and buried in the Providence backlands, nothing has materialised from that information.

The frustrated woman said that she will continue searching until she knows what happened to her son.

Anyone with information that could lead to Greenidge can contact the nearest police station or his mother on telephone number 609-2304. He was last seen in the vicinity of Agricola clad in a blue jersey and black three-quarter pants.
