Student/mason accused of being chain snatcher

An 18-year-old, said to be a Freeburg Secondary School student, was yesterday charged in a city court with stealing a gold chain.

It was alleged that Devin Green, of 112 East La Penitence, stole a gold chain from Amrita Singh, on November 14, at Brickdam, Georgetown.

The chain was valued at $215,000.

Attorney Paul Fung-A-Fat, who represented Green, said that in addition to being a student he does masonry work. He said his client was mistakenly identified by Singh in a crowd.

There was no objection to bail by prosecutor Deniro Jones and Magistrate Ann McLennan placed Green on $75,000 bail.

The case was transferred to Courts 8 and 9 for continuance on December 15.
