Excavator belonging to Region Six vandalised

The Region Six Democratic Council is investigating the vandalism of one of its excavators.

Just over a week ago, the machine which was being used to clear drains and canals in the farming community of Sandvoort Village in West Canje, Berbice was intentionally damaged by unknown persons. The equipment was scheduled to be used in another farming community and the vandalising has been a tremendous setback to the region’s work programme.

According to the regional chairman, David Armogan, the machine was assigned to the West Canje area for approximately three weeks “to help the farmers in the Sandvoort area to do their dams, and clear the trenches and so”. When this was accomplished, the day prior to the date scheduled for the machine to be relocated, it was vandalised.

“We told them we had to move the machine to another area and the night before the machine should have moved, persons went into the machine, vandalised the entire dashboard, destroyed the computer box and so the machine is down”.

Armogan said he was appalled at and perturbed by the incident, and questioned why persons would seek to destroy the equipment.

“We are trying to help people by providing these machines, especially in the farming community”, he stated, admitting that he has “lots of problems, when I represent people within some of these areas”.

What makes the act difficult to comprehend and accept, the regional chairman said, is the fact that “I go out of my way to twist people’s hands to get these machines into these areas”. Shaking his head in disappointment, Armogan questioned if “that is the results that you get? I find myself in very great difficulty sometimes”.

Armogan is making an appeal to the general public, especially those living in Sandvoort, to come forward with any information they may have pertaining to the vandalism of the excavator, and which can lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.

The equipment is presently being repaired.
