Two held after double robberies at Zeelugt

Two men are in police custody following two armed robberies at Zeelugt, Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo on Sunday night.

According to a police statement, four men, armed with a gun, broke into the house of a Zeelugt Housing Scheme resident and robbed her.

Forty-four-year-old Chandrawattie had her house ransacked and the men escaped with $500,000, a laptop and jewellery.

Another robbery was reported that night, and police believe that it was the same men involved in the other robbery. Patricia Jeffrey, 33, of Zeelugt North Housing Scheme and her daughter were held up and the bandits escaped with a laptop, jewellery and $50,000.

However, two men were captured at the Uitvlught bus shed on the West Coast Demerara and an unlicensed .38 revolver with 6 matching rounds and one of the stolen computers were found in their possession.

The men were arrested and are in police custody assisting with the investigations.
