Four fined for driving under the influence of alcohol

Four men—three in Berbice and one on the West Demerara—have been charged and fined $7,500 each for driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to a press release from the Guyana Police Force, the four men were stopped over the period November 27 to December 4 and were administered breathalyser tests, which revealed that they were over the legal limit.

On November 27, Hafeez Persaud, 28, of Sheet Anchor, East Canje Berbice was stopped while driving motorcar HC 4429 on the Sheet Anchor Public Road, given a breathalyser test and found to be above the legal limit of consumption of alcohol. He was charged and pleaded guilty when he appeared in the New Amsterdam Magis-trate’s Court last Monday where he was fined $7,500.

20141211driving underalcoholTwenty-five-year-old Ruel Jagroo of Rose Hall Town, Corentyne was also stopped on the said date while driving PSS 7332 on the Sheet Anchor Public Road in East Canje. A breathalyser test was administered which found him to be above the legal limit. Jagroo was charged and appeared in the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court last Monday where he pleaded guilty and was fined $7,500.

On December 2, 34-year-old Jaipersaud Lallbeharry of Adelphi, East Canje Berbice was stopped while driving motor car HB 785 on the Cumberland Public Road, East Canje, Berbice. He was given a breathalyser test which found him to be over the legal limit of consumption of alcohol. The man was charged and appeared in the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court on Thursday where he pleaded guilty. He was fined $7,500.

Kennard Basdeo, 20, of Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara was stopped while driving motorcar PKK 1729 on the Leonora Public road, WCD. A breathalyser test was administered to him, which revealed that he was above the legal limit of consumption of alcohol. He was charged and appeared in the Leonora Magistrate’s Court on Thursday where he pleaded guilty to the offence and was fined $7,500.
