IGG to be held here in May

After an absence of three years, French Guiana will renew its rivalry with Guyana and Suriname for top honours in the Inter-Guiana Games this year.

According to Director of Sport, Neil Kumar:“French Guiana has agreed to be back in the fold after being out for the past three years.

“We are happy they are back on board and we look forward to competing against them when we host the first leg,” Kumar added.

“The French Ambassador to Suriname also a French Guiana representative was at the meeting in Suriname last week and they agreed to be part of this year’s Games.”

The Director of Sport further disclosed that Guyana will host the initial phase of the two-leg Games from May 8 to 12 while Suriname do the honours in mid-October. The official dates are yet to be confirmed.

The disciplines to be contested here are Track and Field, Basketball, Football and Swimming. However the basketball segment of the Games will be played in late July to coincide with the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) programme.

Badminton, Chess, Cycling, Table Tennis and Volleyball will be played in the neighboring Dutch territory. (Emmerson Campbell)
