Young Warriors, No.71 clash today in 2013 NBS 2nd division final

The final of the 2013 New Building Society (NBS) second division 40-overs-a-side competition between Young Warriors and No. 71 will finally bowl off today at the No.69 Village Ground, Berbice.

Both teams are evenly balanced and will go into today’s final having not lost any matches in the round-robin stages of the competition which was played in 16 zones.

Young Warriors batting will depend heavily on former Guyana U15 and Berbice U19 cricketer, Kevin Ramdeen, who has so far registered a century and two half-centuries in the competition.

The only other batsman with a half century to his name in the team is former Berbice U19 cricketer Ishwar Singh.

However, the likes of Mortimer Fraser, Sanjay Khan, Rudolph Baker, Anil Beharry, Berbice U17 all-rounder Kassim Khan and veteran player/coach Hubern “Silver Fox” Evans have contributed consistently and will be expected to do so in today’s all important encounter.

In the bowling department, the team will depend heavily on their spin attack spearheaded by left-arm spinner Beharry, a former Berbice all-rounder, off-spinners Sanjay Khan, a former Guyana U15 and Berbice U19 cricketer, Romesh Munna, Ishwar Singh, Ramdeen and Evans. The pacers in the squad are Kawal Mangal and Kassim Khan.

The No. 71 batting lineup will be spearheaded by prolific batsman Soomdat Singh who has amassed 500 runs; the most runs in the tournament by an individual and which includes two centuries and two half centuries.

Khemraj Sugrim, Fiaz Mohamed and Andrew Seamber, all have half-centuries under their belts while Nazim Mohamed, Deoprakash Ramdat, Manouram Vincent, Navin Vincent and Lionel Seegobin have all scored useful runs in the past.
