One person has been held in connection with the death of Istekar Khan, the man who was beaten and dumped along the Friendship, East Bank Demerara public road last Friday.

Khan died of fractured skull, a post-mortem examination revealed on Wednesday.

The Hyde Park, Timehri resident died as he was being transferred from the Diamond Hospital to the Georgetown Public Hospital to treat his injuries. He was picked up from the Friendship roadside by a police patrol after residents refused to help him and chased him out of their yards.

The post-mortem examination, which was performed on Wednesday, revealed that the man died of a fractured skull and brain haemorrhaging.

According to a police source, a man has since been arrested in connection with Khan’s death.

Speaking to Stabroek News yesterday, Rita Khan, the man’s mother, said she remains confused about why someone would harm her son. She said the entire ordeal is still a shock to her.

Khan and his girlfriend had left their home on the evening of January 1 to go partying in Georgetown. But when they were due to leave the party, Khan refused to go home with the woman. He never made it home.

After an entire day passed and he did not return home, Rita Khan instructed her son’s girlfriend to go to the police station and report him missing. When the woman went to the station, she then learned that they had picked up a male fitting Khan’s description and that he was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
