Supermarket workers accused of theft

Two supermarket employees were yesterday each released on $50,000 bail after denying stealing from their employer.

Salesman Rolex Jones, 40, of Goed Intent, West Bank Demerara, and porter Ivor Waddell, 26, of Lot 56 Second Street, Prospect, East Bank Demerara, are accused of stealing a quantity of Nestle products from their employer, Distribution Services Limited (DSL).

It is alleged that on January 7, at Georgetown, they stole products valued $66,465 in total.

Both Jones and Waddell pleaded not guilty to the charge of simple larceny when it was read to them by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Prosecutor Michael Grant had no objections to bail, which was set at $50,000 for each man.

The case was subsequently adjourned to March 27.
