Two shot in Barima River robbery

At about 2330h. last night, the police say that two men armed with a handgun and a cutlass entered a mining camp at Cassawini Backdam, Barima River, NWD, and held up Randradin, 57 years, of Port Kaituma, NWD, and Aaron Ramkarran, 37 years, of Johanna Cecelia, Essequibo Coast, and demanded gold.

Revenue authority laments parking problems

The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has lamented the problems it faces trying to ease the traffic congestion around its Camp Street HQ and said the situation has been compounded by the unwillingness of members of the public to pay a fee and employees disregarding a lot set aside for them and parking on the streets and parapets.

Avon vendors challenged to explore business options

It will take some time for the full impact of the closure of its Caribbean operations by the American cosmetics giant Avon to be felt in the Guyana economy, but amongst the vendors, mostly women, who have, for years, sold the company’s cosmetics goods from their living rooms, in small makeshift stores and even from pavements, the end of Avon’s operations in Guyana appears to have brought with it a sense of shock and bewilderment.
