Man sentenced to 18 months for fraudulent conversion

After pleading guilty to the charge of fraudulent conversion, 35-year-old Troy Singh was yesterday sentenced to 18 months imprisonment by Magistrate Sunil Scarce when he appeared at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court.

According to the police report, on December 13, 2014, at Charity, Singh called ‘Brum Brum’ of Lot 61 West Coast Berbice sold a quantity of items and converted the money to his own use and benefit.

The items inclusive of clothes and footwear valued at $341,000 was the property of vendor, Marcia Griffith which she had entrusted to Singh for sale on her behalf.

The man, however sold the items, took the proceeds and paid child support.

A report was made to the police and on Sunday last, Singh was apprehended at Charity where he admitted to the offence under caution and was subsequently placed in custody.

During the court session yesterday, the unrepresented Singh pleaded guilty as the charge was read to him and was duly sentenced by Magistrate Scarce.
