Teenager on bail over theft of clothing from employer

A teenage girl was granted bail yesterday after it was alleged that she stole some $750,000 in clothing.

Arianna Lalu, 18, who resides at the St Stanislaus Sporting Complex, pleaded not guilty yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 1.

It is alleged that while Lalu worked for Amrita Dojoy, she stole a quantity of articles valued at $751,700.

Lalu’s attorney said she admitted to stealing the articles after Dojoy and her daughter threatened Lalu and stormed into her bedroom, picking up articles of clothing and claiming they were the stolen items. Lalu’s attorney further requested that reasonable bail be given as she is currently unemployed and is from a poor family.

The prosecution had no objections to bail.

Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry placed Lalu on $50,000 bail. Her next court date is April 1, 2015.
