Desperate measure by President Ramotar

Dear Editor,

The President of Guyana has created history once again by asking the GDF to vote for his party in a letter in both the Kaieteur News and Stabroek News recently. No other president has ever resorted to such desperate measures.

We have noted that this letter was written after weeks of demonising of the Military. It displays the contempt and disrespect that the ruling administration has for

soldiers. One is left to wonder if this letter is not a veiled threat, “Vote for me or else”.

The timing of this letter is also significant since it is written one week before the Joint Services vote on 2nd May.

One serving soldier said, “I am certain we will be abused again after we vote on 2nd May. We are not falling for this tactic of flattering us to deceive us”.

Mr. Ramotar stated in his letter, “We have unshackled the disciplined services from political influence”. If this is letter is not an attempt at political influence, then Mr. Ramotar thinks that not only the soldiers are fools, but that the entire nation is wearing dunce caps.

 Yours faithfully,

George Gomes
