UG/Sophia cricket match ends in draw

Omesh Danram and Pavindra Persaud’s brilliant efforts with the bat were not enough to give host University of Guyana an outright victory over Sophia Cricket Club in their Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/Noble House Second Division encounter.

Played last weekend, Persaud’s (71 not-out and 105 not-out) and Danram’s (67 not- out and 95) was good only to see UG secure a tame draw though they dominated most of the game. UG won the toss and compiled 261-3 from 47 overs, principal scorers were Persaud’s 71 not-out, Danram’s 67 not-out and Leon Williams’s 56.

In response, Sophia were bundled out for 91 runs from 34 overs, Lloyd George picked up 4-30 from 17 overs bowling some decent medium pace and was ably backed up by off-spinner Dennis Heywood who took 3-29.

The match ended in a draw with UG capturing 1st innings points.
