Man implicates co-accused in attempted burglary

Although he implicated his co-accused, a construction worker was yesterday granted bail after denying that they attempted to break into a Kitty bar.

The construction worker, Clive Lewis and co-accused Romario Archer both pleaded not guilty

to the charge that between May 16 and May 17, at Kitty Public Road, with the intent to commit a felony, they attempted to break and enter the business place of Diana Bowen.

It is the police’s case that Bowen had secured the premises after Archer, who was employed by her, left for the day. However, Archer allegedly returned to the bar with Lewis later that night.

The court heard that a guard on duty noticed the suspicious activity and raised an alarm but this was not before Lewis and Archer attempted to discard a spanner.

Speaking in open court, an unrepresented Lewis told Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, “Romario told me to bring a bag to collect something.”

Both men were subsequently granted $100,000 bail and are to return to court on June 30.
