How Warner was arrested

Deputy Commissioner of Police Crime and Support (Ag.), Glen Hackett, was yesterday contacted by Netram Kowlessar, Head of the Central Authority of Trinidad and Tobago, regarding a request by the United States authorities for the procurement of a provisional warrant of arrest for Mr. Austin Jack Warner on eight (8) fraud related charges.

The offences range from wire fraud; illegal money transfer and racketeering.

After consultation with the Commissioner of Police (Ag.), Stephen Williams, Assistant Commissioner of Police Anti-Crime Operations (Ag.), Carlton Alleyne, was appointed to assist the Central Authority.

At about 11:30am the provisional warrant was obtained for the arrest of Mr. Warner from a Port of Spain Magistrate.

Accompanied by his attorney Fyard Hosein, SC, Mr. Warner surrendered to police at Fraud Squad, located at the corner of Park and Richmond Streets, Port of Spain where the warrant was executed by ACP Alleyne.

Mr. Warner appeared before Chief Magistrate Marcia Ayers-Caesar, presiding in the Port of Spain 8th Court, at approximately 3:35pm where the charges were read and bail granted in the sum of $2.5 million dollars.

The Chief Magistrate ordered Mr. Warner to surrender his passport to the court and to report to the Arouca Police Station each Monday and Thursday between the hours of 6:00am and 6:00pm.
