Two remanded over cocaine found in shoe soles at airport

Two men were yesterday remanded to prison after they were charged over cocaine found in shoe soles in the toilet area at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Timehri.

When Kurt Sunich and Ishreal George made their first court appearance yesterday before Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court 2, they denied the allegation which stated that on July 3rd, at CJIA, Timehri, they had in their possession 580 grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Sunich was represented by attorney Euclin Gomes, while George was represented by attorney Glenn Hanoman and both lawyers asked for bail.

Gomes told the court that the cocaine was not found in his client’s possession.

No details were presented in court but Prosecutor Bharat Mangru objected to bail while noting that the reasons raised by defence attorneys did not satisfy the criteria for the court to consider granting bail.

As a result, bail was refused and both defendants are expected to make their next court appearance on July 20th.
