Swimmers fail to advance; squash team loses to Argentina

Guyana’s swimmers Onika George and Omar Adams failed to get past the first round of the heats of the 100m freestyle events while the men’s squash team was beaten by Argentina in the qualification round as action in this year’s Pan Am Games continued yesterday in Canada.

Competing in heat one of the 100m freestyle event George clocked a time of 1:05.00s which saw her placing fourth.

The heat was won by Dalia Torrez of Nicaragua in 1:01.48s. Second was Jamaris Washshah of the US Virgin Islands in 1:01.68s and Samantha Roberts of Antigua and Barbuda, third in 1:02.66s.

Like George, Omar Adams placed eighth in the men’s 100m freestyle clocking 58:01s.

The heat was won by Canada’s Santo Condorelli in 48:88s.

In squash, the men’s squash team lost to Argentina 0-3 in a qualification match.

Roberto Pezzota defeated Sunil Seth 11-6, 12-10, 11-9; Leandro Romiglio defeated Jason Ray Khalil 11-7, 11-8, 11-8 and Rodrigo Pezzota defeated Kristian Jeffrey 11-3, 11-2, 11-7.

On Monday the pair of Jeffrey/Khalil saw their hopes of advancing past further in the men’s doubles competition dashed by the Schnell brothers Andrew and Graeme of Canada. The Schnells won 11-5, 11-4.
