Prisoner jeered after short-lived escape attempt at GPH

Patients at the Accident and Emergency Department of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation were treated to a moment of high drama when a prisoner being transported for treatment tried to make a run for it.

The man, who was reportedly taken into custody last evening after an altercation with his brother, was being transported without restraints to the hospital for treatment of a minor injury received during the altercation. He took the opportunity to make a run from for it, although he was in the custody of three ranks.

The prisoner ran up New Market Street towards East Street with an officer he later described as “pretty fast” in hot pursuit. Before he could make the turn at East Street he was overtaken and returned to A&E where he was extremely contrite.

“I sorry man, I really sorry,” he told the officers while being jeered by the patients. He added, “I lucky dey ain’t try to shoot me.”
