According to a press release from the Insurance Company which was established in 1865, the six-week internship aims to introduce the students to both the world of work and the fundamentals of the insurance industry.

As a part of the training, the students will be provided with an area of concern within the company and at the end of their tenure, each of them has the task of presenting a solution to the senior management team.

President of the Rotary Club of Georgetown, Elizabeth Cox initiated the programme because of “the need to have young and vibrant persons continuing in the insurance industry.” Further, the release said, the internship will also develop a pool of potential employees who may want to consider making insurance a career. All four participants in the programme: Lyndon Dorway, Sharlene Neeranjan, Yogeshree Narine and Sheliza Pollard are members of the Interact Club at their school, School of the Nations, and all recently wrote the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).
