Second person to be charged for murder of Mahaica rice grower

A second person will today be charged with the June 1 murder of Mahaica rice farmer Hardat Kissoon, Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum has confirmed.

Blanhum told Stabroek yesterday that the man was arrested by police earlier this week.

Kissoon, called `Buju’ of Cane Grove, Mahaica died instantly after being shot once in the chest by a gunman who escaped on a motorcycle which was parked on the University of Guyana access road. At the time of the incident, he was returning from a city bank where he had changed a cheque for over half a million dollars.

Sources close to the investigation say that the suspect to be charged was the person riding the motor cycle. The motor cycle suspected to have been used in the getaway is also in police custody.

“He is the owner of the motor cycle and it is suspect that he facilitated the getaway”, a source said.

So far Sherwin Trotman, an excavator operator has been charged over the murder. Trotman made his first court appearance on July 1. He was charged with murder.

Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones had indicated to the court that the incident was caught on surveillance camera, which led to Trotman’s identification.
