Ambulance patient injured in collision

A hospital patient and a second person were injured when the ambulance in which they were being transported was involved in an accident with another vehicle at Better Hope, East Coast Demerara yesterday.

The ambulance from the St Joseph Mercy Hospital was carrying a patient from the Doobay Medical Centre located at Courbane Park, Annandale, ECD when it collided with a Toyota Tundra.

According to the driver of the ambulance, the crash occurred about 10.25 am yesterday as the ambulance which had five occupants including the patient was heading west along the East Coast public road with its siren on. He noticed that the driver of the Toyota Tundra GMM 2766 was waiting for traffic before making a turn north.

On hearing the siren, he said, she made a sudden turn causing the ambulance to collide with her vehicle. Both the vehicles then slammed into an electric pole located at the corner of the Better Hope Public Road.

The injured patient along with another occupant was transported to the St Joseph Mercy hospital by a public spirited citizen.
