GPHC launches fitness club

The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) launched its fitness club yesterday to aid staff members in changing their lifestyles.

The club is exclusive and free to staff members of the hospital and will have one-hour sessions three days a week. There will be provisions made for additional classes to accommodate other programmes and staff. Currently, 40 staff members have joined.

The fitness club is the brainchild of GPHC CEO Michael Khan and will be piloted by the Chief Public Safety Officer Mark Lewis.

Lewis, who has a military background, is excited about the formation of the club and noted that sessions will focus on cardiovascular exercises, which will be in the form of Zumba, and group circuit training. He said training would not be confined to the hospital and will be conducted in the National Park and other outdoor locations.

Lewis said the aim of the club is to motivate and change the lifestyle of staff.

Exercise equipment was sponsored by Food for the Poor, Digicel, Fitness Express, Gafoors, Cummings Electrical and Banks DIH.

The club will be working in collaboration with the hospital dietitian and two female trainers from Body Maxx Gym.
