Meusa clinches chess title

Guyana’s lone FIDE Instructor Wendell Meusa was crowned the inaugural Attorney-at-Law James Bond Invitational Tournament Elite Champion, edging Roy Sharma to clinch the title on Sunday at the People’s National Congress (PNC) Headquarters in Sophia.

Despite suffering his only defeat in the event to Sharma, Meusa emerged the victor after edging the former via the Swiss Tie breaking system after both players had finished on six points.

On the other hand, Sharma suffered his only defeat in the event after going down to Davion Mars. Coming in at the third position was Cleveland Hutson who finished with five points, losing to Meusa and Sharma in the fifth and sixth round respectively of the seventh round.

In other results, Mars secured the fourth position with four points while fifth place went to the lone female participant Dr. Maria Thomas who also finished on four points.

The sixth position was occupied by Owen Mickel with 3.5 points while Errol Tiwari and James Bond finished in the seventh and eighth position respectively with three and 2.5 points.

Completing the bottom three were Winston Williams, Shaun Griffith and Kibwe Copeland with one point each.
