Man granted $500,000 bail on death by dangerous driving charge

A man was yesterday granted $500,000 bail after being charged with causing a death by way of dangerous driving.

The charge against Peter Moore alleged that on April 31, 2015 at Craig, East Bank Demerara, he drove motor canter GRP 8102 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Harry Daley.

Moore was not required to plead as the charge is indictable.

Representing the accused, Attorney Clive Forde made an application for bail to be granted. Even though no particulars of the incident were read in court, Forde stated that eyewitnesses had seen the deceased lying on the road in a drunken state 10 minutes prior to the accident occurring.

He went on to note that after hitting the man, his client stopped and rendered assistance by transporting him to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre and waited there until the police came.

He also stated that his client was on $100,000 station bail and will make every effort to attend court when he has to.

The father of two was subsequently released on $500,000 bail and is expected to return to the Georgetown Magistrate’s court 3 on August 19.
