Intruder’s arm amputated after Freedom House shooting

An intruder was shot on Friday night in the compound of Freedom House, the headquarters of the opposition PPP, where police say he attempted to attack a security guard.

The man, said to be a vagrant, remained unidentified up to yesterday afternoon. He has been admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he is under police guard.

Police are still trying to ascertain the man’s identity and his motives.

According to a source, the man refuses to speak to the police and as a result they have been unable to identify him. The source noted that as a result of the shooting, doctors were forced to amputate the man’s arm.

The shooting, according to a police statement, occurred around 11.20pm in the compound of Freedom House, on Robb Street.

Police said the intruder was seen on the roof of the kitchen of the premises and after a guard tried to apprehend him, he attacked with a knife and was shot.
