Joe Biden has a better chance of becoming the next US president than Hilary Clinton

Dear Editor,

Most Guyanese and Caribbean nationals are supporting the Democrats in the United States and would like to see another Democrat in the White House after Barack Obama demits office in January 2017.

This might not be an easy task if the incumbent party does not field a suitable candidate. While Donald Trump is making the headlines in his bid to be the presidential candidate for the Republican Party, more and more persons are criticizing Hilary Clinton in connection with the email scandal, and she seems to be slipping in the polls. Despite this she will win the nomination for the Democrats because the other contenders are not in her league.

President Barack Obama, as leader of the party by virtue of the fact he is the President should intervene and ask his Vice-President to consider running to take over from him. After all, he should be the obvious choice having served faithfully and with distinction for seven years. It is the norm for a two-term vice-president to be chosen to succeed the outgoing president, but it seems to me that Biden was elbowed out, no doubt because of Hilary’s popularity ‒ former first lady, former senator, former secretary of state and moreover the wife of one of the most popular men in the world, former president Bill Clinton.

Despite her popularity and her brilliance, she has a few skeletons in the closet, and now she is running for the top position, the press and the Republican Party will go all out to gather as much information as possible to attack her.

The Whitewater controversy where Hilary was subpoenaed to testify has already resurfaced, and then are murmurs about Susan Mc Dougal and Vince Foster.

Hilary Diana Rodham Clinton is no doubt a charming woman who can convince a gathering because she is a wonderful advocate and an outstanding politician. However the Benghazi attack which claimed the lives of four Americans including an Ambassador cannot be forgotten, and above all the email scandal will be the main target for both the press and the Republicans.

In fact Donald Trump is contending that the email incident is criminal and the FBI is carrying out extensive investigations. It seems as if her explanation as regards wiping out only personal emails is not accepted in all quarters and the issue of classified and high level emails is being debated.

She is also the first First Lady to be a senator as well as secretary of state. Can these achievements assist her to be the first female president? A large number of senior Democrats feel that Joe Biden stands a better chance of winning the nomination because his track record, both as a senator and vice-president in unblemished.

He is honest, hardworking and liked by members of both sides of the House. Joe Biden by extension, therefore, has a better chance of becoming the next president than Hilary Clinton.

Call in Joe (Biden) the plummer to fix the leak in the Democratic Party.

Yours faithfully,

Oscar Ramjeet
