WASHINGTON, DC, CMC – Two losses in as many games for Montego Bay United in the CONCACAF Champions League is forcing the high-profile Jamaican outfit to regroup.
Montego lost their opening CCL contest 3-0 to Panamanian side Arabe Unido earlier this month and aldo went down by to DC United by an identical scoreline earlier this week.
Head coach Tim Hankinson, brought in just prior to the campaign, said he had learnt a lot about the team coming out of the heavy defeats.
“We are at the beginning of a process,” the American said. “There are a lot of things I learned about the personalities in the team and the qualities within the team.”
He continued: “We are gaining match fitness. This was only our second game, no preparation games, so therefore we are in the frying pan trying to bring a 90-minute performance together.”
Montego Bay won the Jamaica Premier League last year and then finished third in the Caribbean Club Championship, to qualify for the CCL.
They have found the going tough and are staring at elimination in the first round, without a point or goal at the bottom of Group H.
Hankinson, a former Colorado Rapids and Tampa Bay Mutiny head coach, says he knows the road ahead will be a challenging one.
“There is certainly a lot of work yet to be done,” he said.
