Second man charged over gun-point carjacking

The alleged accomplice of shop owner Linden Hodge, who was on Monday charged with stealing a car, was yesterday charged.

Travis Nichols, 26, of Lot 6 Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara, was not required to plead to the charge that he robbed Mervin Persaud of his car, valued $2,000,000 and a cellphone, valued $10,000.

Hodge, who was said to be in the company of another and armed with a gun during the attack on Persaud, had pleaded not guilty on Monday.

Nichols’ attorney told the court that the accused was picked up by the police in a vehicle. The attorney related that the driver of the car that Nichols was in fled from the scene, leaving the accused behind and leading to his arrest.

Nichols, like Hodge, was remanded to prison until September 8th, when his case will be heard at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court 10.
