Dear Editor,
Having become excited by the online reviews of the movie The Perfect Guy, I decided to visit the beautiful Giftland Mall, to make use of the opportunity to enjoy some nice entertainment at the hottest spot in the country on Sunday last. No sooner had I sat in my seat with great anticipation, than in came a woman, smartly dressed with what appeared to be two young girls, maybe 4 and 8 years old. Editor, at first I thought that perhaps the woman bought the wrong tickets and had meant to view a movie that was child appropriate, but as the movie began, and reality hit me, I started to shift in my seat and became very uncomfortable. It was after the first sexual scene appeared, that I decided that I couldn’t just sit there, so I raced in search of the ushers, to ascertain whether they had explained to the woman that the movie was R- rated and that she could not be allowed to enter the cinema with her kids. To my disappointment the responses from the ushers were equally shocking, though they were very professional; I could not believe what I was being told. They all explained that it was their duty to only warn the woman that the movie contained content that was inappropriate for kids, and that was the extent to which they were allowed to go.
Editor, I view this policy as immoral, disdainful and downright wrong. In a world where kids are subjected to so many types of abuses, how could Giftland be indirectly contributing to these injustices? I call on the management to immediately review this policy and not be coldhearted because of the need to make a profit. They should get it right for the sake of our kids.
