Mindley all-round effort headlines final day of trial

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Marquino Mindley snatched three wickets and struck a half-century while left-arm seamer Sheldon Cottrell picked up a four-wicket haul, as the second trial match in preparation for the upcoming first class season finished in a draw here Friday.

The 20-year-old Mindley, better known for his right-arm fast bowling, struck five fours and three sixes in an unbeaten 53 off 75 balls as Paul Palmer’s XI finished the third and final day on 183 for seven in their second innings.

Lower order batsman Damion Jacobs made 49.

Cottrell, who has played two Tests for West Indies, grabbed the first four wickets to tumble to finish with four for 33.

John Campbell’s XI had earlier carried their overnight first innings score of 193 for six to 259 all out, with tail-ender Brian Buchanan hitting a cameo 52 off 57 deliveries, with three fours and four sixes.

Skipper Campbell made a top score of 88 on Thursday.

Mindley finished with three for 20 while left-arm finger spinner Coi Thompson (3-28) and leg-spinner Jacobs (3-81) also claimed three wicket hauls.
