Bodybuilders head for Bahamas as CAC expands

NASSAU, Bahamas, CMC- Organisers of the 43rd Central American Caribbean Bodybuilding (CAC) Championships in Bahamas this weekend say the event has grown in stature and has been expanded to include other categories.

Nardo Dean, spokesman for the Championships, which run from September 24-27 at the Atlantis Paradise Island, says physique positions, the bikini and the fitness categories have become permanent features.

Over 400 athletes from 41 countries are expected to participate in the CAC championships.

“It’s not just bodybuilding. The show has expanded now and we have the physique positions now, the bikini category and the fitness categories,” said Dean.

“So it has expanded to just all muscles on stage. It is now displaying different aspects of the physical forms in terms of their athletic ability and so there is something there for everyone”.

The Bahamas has won the overall title eight times and is hosting the event for the sixth time. The last championships were held in 2008 when The Bahamas won the overall title. “We have been mentoring but they are at home and they have the advantage,” Mr. Dean said.

“We have the opportunity to put in an A and B team and we are confident that we are going to bring home one or two pro cards and the gold for The Bahamas.”

Officials in Bahamas say a strong team is being prepared which will include athletes on the verge of turning professional.

“This year, we have a very strong team with several of our athletes who have the potential to turn pro,” declared Joel Stubbs, President of the Bahamas Bodybuilding Fitness Federation (BBFF).

“We are looking to bringing the overall team gold right back here at home where it belongs and it would be wonderful and a sincere privilege to have you celebrate with us, and support our Bahamian athletes in this highly charged nice family atmosphere”.
