GFA’s Technical Director facing fraud charges

ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – Lester Smith and Nigel ‘German” Mckie were yesterday placed on EC$50 000 bail when they appeared at the St George’s number one Court on multiple charges of fraud and forgery.

Smith, who is the Technical Director of the Grenada Football Association is facing ten counts of forgery and conspiracy while Nigel ‘German” McKie, who is associated with the Grenada Basketball Association, is jointly charged with him on two of those charges.

Both men were each placed on EC$50 000 bail for the indictable offenses which carry a maximum of 15 years imprisonment if found guilty.

Reports are that both men were under investigation by the Grenada and Bridgetown-based United States Embassies after irregularities were discovered in visa applications by persons who were attempting to travel with the women football team to Puerto Rico last August.

The investigations were conducted by officials at both embassies in recent weeks and the findings were handed over to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution here. The men are expected to return to Court on December 8.
