Plaisance shocks Ravens 51-45

Plaisance Guardians secured the biggest upset to date in the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) League Championship, downing number one seed Ravens 51-45  in their Open Divisional fixture on Wednesday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

Mark Richards led the way with 16 points, 8 rebounds, and two steals while Trenton Woolford, Enoch Matthews and Nikkoloi Smith scored seven points apiece. For the loser, Ryan Gullen top scored with 10 points and eight rebounds while Tyrone Hamid and Ryan Stephney scored six and five points each.

The opening period saw the East Coast of Demerara unit racing off to the early lead as they outscored Raven’s 14-9. Guardians then maintained their lead going into the half time interval as both teams scored 16 points apiece in the second period which ended 30-25.

Ravens then equalized the matchup in the third stanza, out-hustling their foe 14-9 as the score ended 39-39 going into the final period. Nevertheless, Guardians would not be denied as they scored 12 points while reducing Ravens to six points to seal the famous win.

In the second divisional section Republic Bank Nets downed Eagles 72-54. Mortimer Williams led the winner with 13 points while Dorian Lewis, Joe Ifill, Mortimer Robertson and Hodyah Stewart scored 10, 10, nine and eight points respectively.

For the loser, Devon Murray top scored with 16 points while Courtney Taylor and Louis James netted 11 and nine points respectively. In the u-23 division, Dyna’s Ravens defeated Guardians by a 69-53 score line.

Mortland Ward top scored for the winner with 16 points while Carlos Edwards, Devon Williams, Sebastian Juke and Anthony Richards chipped in with 15, 12, 12 and eight points correspondingly.

For Guardians, Terrence Daniels recorded a game high 23 points while Andrew Johnson and Malcolm Powder scored 11 and 10 points respectively.
