Monedderlust FC suffered its first home defeat in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Stag Beer Elite League, losing to Slingerz FC 0-2 Saturday at the No. #5 ground, Berbice.

Goals in the eighth and 45th+1 minute from Dexroy Adams and Vurlon Mills respectively earned the tricky win for the visitors who now jump to the second position on 15 points.

The losers are now in the cellar position with seven points.

It was a dream start for the Vergenoegen unit as Adams netted with a first time volley into the right hand corner from the top of the box, after pouncing on a botched clearance.

On the other side, the hosts almost snatched the equaliser in the 20th minute but a flat, right side cross evaded the onrushing Kevin Cottoy within the left side of the box.

Similarly, the visitors nearly added to their tally eight minutes later but Julian Wade was denied by the onrushing goalkeeper who raced off his goal-line to make a timey interception just outside the box, after the forward raced away in his attempt to latch onto a through pass.

The chances also continued on the other side in the 31st minute as Travis Henry directed his powerful header just over the crossbar from the centre of the box, after rising high to latch onto a right side cross.

Wade was then guilty of wasting an opportunity five minutes onward as a left side cross was dropped by the ‘keeper within the centre of the box, only for the forward to fire his first time effort wide of the lower right corner.

Nonetheless the visitors would not be denied as a poor decision by the custodian led to Mills doubling his side’s lead on the stroke of the half time interval.

Dribbling his marker 26 yards from goal in the centre of the field, Mills, upon cutting back on his favoured right leg, unleashed an effort which was inexplicably allowed by the ‘keeper to sail into the top right hand corner.

The visitors continued to enjoy the better of the exchanges in the second stanza with Wade denied in the 62nd minute by the legs of the ‘keeper in a one-on-one situation, after racing onto a through pass within the centre of the box.

Travis Sullivan then nearly pulled one back for the hosts six minutes later, pouncing on a loose ball within the box, only to flash his effort wide of the lower left hand corner.

Likewise, the third goal continued to evade Slingerz as Dwain Jacobs following a one-two pass combination, raced into the box with only the goalkeeper in his path, only to fire his left footed effort wide of the lower left hand corner in the 79th minute.

The opening matchup of the night witnessed the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) dismissing Buxton United by a 2-0 score line.

Winner of the round will pocket $4,000,000 while the second, third and fourth place teams will collect $2,000,000, $1,000,000 and $500,000 respectively. Similarly, the point’s leader prior to the knockout stage in the League Genesis round will pocket an additional $1,000,000.

Action in the tourney is slated to continue tomorrow with a doubleheader at the GFC ground in Bourda.
