Town Hall, Kitty Market crying out for attention

Dear Editor,

Two buildings in Georgetown are crying out for attention. Both of these are, I believe, heritage buildings but have been neglected over the years and have now become eye sores.

These buildings are the Town Hall and the Kitty Market.

The time is long overdue for the relevant authorities to come to the rescue of these two landmark structures. In the case of the Kitty Market, it has now degenerated to eye sore status, given the advanced state of physical deterioration. Moreover, it is fast becoming a health hazard to vendors and customers who do business there on a daily basis.

It is clear that the City Council is unable to fund the rehabilitation costs required to bring back these buildings to any degree of respectability.

Central Government, through the Ministry of Local Government should intervene as a matter of urgency having regard to the historic value of these buildings.

Yours faithfully,

Hydar Ally
