It was poor judgement by the Administration to confer a National Award on Mr. Welton Trotz, former Director of Prisons.
Truth be told Mr. Trotz should never have been considered for an award (much less a National Award) at this time.
The allegations against Mr. Trotz had been swirling around him since last year. When the government changed the ante was upped.
Was the Administration not aware of the allegations and or that charges were imminent? At the very minimum the Ministry of Public Security should have been aware since both the Guyana Police Force and Prison Service fall under its administration.
I am sure it is not the policy of the Granger Administration to reward officials for perceived misdemeanours and a man is innocent until proven guilty. For this reason the actual conferring of the Award should have been withheld pending the outcome of the matter.
The missteps and blunders by the almost six months old Administration keep mounting.
