Driver charged with hitting couple at Lamaha St

Almost two months after William Nurse and Lisa Khedoo were struck off a bicycle near Lamaha and East streets, Georgetown, the driver of the car that allegedly caused the accident has been charged.

Kyle Isaacs appeared in a city court last week Tuesday and was charged with dangerous driving, Nurse’s sister, Dianne, told Stabroek News.

He denied the allegation and was released on $25,000 bail and was ordered to return to court on November 26th, when his trial is expected to begin.

Nurse, 53, and Khedoo, 37, were hit on August 30th by a government owned-car, bearing licence plate PNN 9. Nurse sustained injuries to his spine, pelvis and ribs. He had lacerations about his body and was also bleeding internally. Khedoo sustained a broken right arm and bruises about her body.

The driver had offered to compensate the victims but never returned after that visit, Nurse had confirmed.

As a result of the spinal injuries he sustained in the accident, Nurse is unable to do anything on his own, his sister said.

After he was discharged from the hospital, he had nowhere to go and was eventually taken into her care. She said he is required to visit the hospital three times a week for therapy but she cannot afford to take him.

Before the accident, Nurse worked as a caretaker at Queen’s College.
