Woman found with 25 lbs of cocaine at airport

Observant ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) yesterday unearthed 25 pounds of cocaine concealed in packets of powdered milk in the suitcase of an outbound passenger at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri.

Head of CANU James Singh confirmed the bust and the detention of a female city resident, when contacted by Stabroek News.

Based on the information provided, the woman was scheduled to leave Guyana for New York on a Caribbean Airlines flight yesterday morning.

Around 5 am, during a routine security check, CANU ranks found several packets of what appeared to be Kerry Gold-brand powdered milk in the woman’s suitcase. On further examination, it was found that the packets contained cocaine and not milk.

The woman was subsequently arrested.

Singh said he wanted to publicly thank the ranks for a job well done even as they continuously toil in the fight against the narco-trafficking and the narco trade here.

CANU continues to uncover drugs for trafficking, especially cocaine, ingeniously disguised as other items. The drug has been found in coconuts, vegetables, rum, and seafood, among other consumables.
