Hikers, GCC hockey teams battle to stalemate

Defending first division champs Hikers and the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) battled to a 3-3 stalemate when the Guyana Telephone & Telegraph Company (GT&T) National Indoor Championship commenced on Monday.

Staged at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue, Shane Samuels, Robert France and Jamarj Assanah scored for the holders. On the other hand, Orland Semple recorded a brace for the Bourda based unit while Eric Hing scored a solitary effort to claim a vital point.

In other results, Old Fort downed Jaguars 7-3 in an open divisional matchup while Pumas dismissed Saints by a 5-2 margin in the third match of the section.

In the lone Female fixture, Panthers defeated Hikers 2-0 led by a double from Shebiki Baptiste and a lone strike from Tiffany Solomon.

In the second division matches, Old Fort defeated Saints by 3-0 while in the battle of the newcomers, Phoenix burnt Saints Stanislaus College 1-0. The final match of the section saw GCC defeated Hikers 2-0.

Action in the event is slated to continue throughout the week, with the final being staged at the same venue on Sunday.
