Unbeaten Winners Connection, Victoria Kings collide tonight

The inaugural Guyana Telephone & Telegraph Company GTT Knockout Football Championship will continue today at the Mackenzie Sports Club in Linden with an entertaining doubleheader.

The opening matchup of the night promises to be an exciting affair when unbeaten group-A teams Winners Connection out of Linden oppose East Coast of Demerara giant Victoria Kings from 18:00hrs.

Winners Connection enter the matchup on the back of a 6-1 dismantling of Rosignol United in their opening fixture and will hope to maintain their undefeated record.

In attack the Lindeners possess the likes of veteran Rawle Gittens, Marmarlaque Davidson and Fitzroy Chin while Derrol Danity will be called upon to lead the defensive duties.

On the other side, Victoria Kings defeated Golden Grove 2-0 in their first fixture and will attempt to make two wins in as many matches.

The veteran side will look to inspiration from their talisman Winston Pompey alongside Alden Lawrence and Aubrey Gibson in attack while Sherlock Dowden will lead the defensive effort when opening whistle commences.

The feature contest of the night will be another chapter in their storied rivalry when Topp XX lock horns with Milerock in the battle for the Mining Town from 20:00hrs

The Mackenzie based Topp XX unit got their campaign off to the perfect start with a 2-0 win over Ann’s Grove and will now look to solidify their position at the top of the group-B standings with a win on home soil.

In attack, Topp XX will look to the quartet of Travis Whatterton, Shawn Daniels, Quacey Johnson and rising start Dequan Hercules to pierce the opposing backline while Tevin Crawford and Ruel Williams will be tasked with leading the defensive responsibilities.

Meanwhile, Milerock will be desperate for a positive result following their 2-1 loss to New Amsterdam United in the tourney opener.

Pressure will be on the trident of Jermain Grandison, Clarence Huggins and Ron Fiedtkou to find the back of the net in more consistent manner while the rearguard displays led by the custodian Martin Leacock and defender Akeem Greene must also be improved come kick off time.

Winner of the event will pocket $500,000 and the championship trophy while the second place side will pocket $250,000 and the respective accolade. The third place side will receive $125,000 and a trophy while the fourth positioned unit will collect $75,000 and the respective accolade.
