A man who was charged with chopping a teen to death before throwing his body into the Mahaicony River in 2014 was yesterday committed to stand trial in the High Court.
Stabroek News understands that at the conclusion of a preliminary inquiry Magistrate Sueanna Lovell ruled that a case had been made out against Mark Mohammed and that he will now have to face a judge and jury. The case was heard at the Mahaicony Magistrate’s Court. Mohammed was accused of chopping 19-year-old Neeraj Michael to death and then throwing him overboard.
According to reports, Michael who resided at Champagne Village, Mahaicony was last seen on November 24, after he had informed his grandmother that he was accompanying his employer to a wedding function at Hyde Park, Mahaicony.
It was reported that while there he had an altercation with some persons. He later left the function via boat to return home and was chopped and dumped overboard.
His body was pulled from the river on November 26. The suspect was arrested shortly after the body was found.
