Old foes Stella Maris, St Stephen’s to clash in finale

In what will be a rematch of last year’s inaugural finale, titleholder Stella Maris will lock horns on Saturday with St Stephen’s following semi-final wins when the second Smalta/Ministry of Public Health Girls U-11 Football Championship continued.

Staged on Saturday at the Ministry of Education ground, the prior meeting between the two sides resulted in Stella Maris winning via penalty kicks to snatch the title. Stella Maris earned their berth to the finale after downing North Georgetown 1-0. Ludesha Reynolds was the difference on the day as she scored in the 16th minute, rifling a powerful right-footed freekick from the left side of the field, into the roof of the net. On the other hand, St Stephen’s downed South Ruimveldt 2-0 on penalty kicks after normal time ended 1-1.

Prior to the fixture’s end, Kizieya Phillips scoring for St Stephen’s in the sixth minute while Angel Davis scored for the losing side in the 24th minute.

In the earlier quarterfinal round, South Ruimveldt downed St Pius 2-0 compliments of a Lenisa John double in the 10th and 14th minute.

Also, St Stephen’s defeated Tucville Primary 2-1. Kizieya Phillips netted in the sixth minute while an own goal in the 16th minute sealed the win. On target in the loss was Shania Elexey in the eighth minute.

Meanwhile, North Georgetown downed Enterprise 2-0 on penalty kicks after normal time ended scoreless while Stella Maris overcame West Ruimveldt 4-3 on penalty kicks after normal time ended 0-0.

In the 5-8 section, St Pius dismantled Tucville Primary 4-0. Makhaya Hillman recorded a double in the first and 11th minute while Alesha Jackman and Shania Watson scored in the 14th and 19th minutes.

Similarly, West Ruimveldt edged Enterprise Primary 1-0 led by a Shamiya Lewis ninth-minute effort.

In the 9-16 position section, St Angela’s defeated St Margaret’s 3-2 on penalty kicks after normal time and extra time ended scoreless. They also defeated Sophia Primary via walkover in their other match of the day.

Similarly, F.E. Pollard defeated St Agnes 2-1 on penalty kicks after regulation and extra time ended 0-0. In their earlier match of the section, they defeated Smith Memorial via walkover.

In the other results of the section, St Margaret’s defeated St Ambrose 3-0 compliments of a Reshana Bishop hat-trick in the ninth, 15th and 18th minutes while St Agnes defeated Winfer Gardens 2-0 led by a Jasmine John double in the 10th and 20th minutes.

The final two results witnessed St Ambrose defeating Sophia via walkover and Winfer Gardens defeating Smith Memorial via the identical route.
