Providence man arrested after issuing threats to wife

A confrontation between a couple last night at their Plantation Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD) home, has led to the arrest of a man who reportedly doused his wife with kersosene before threatening to kill her while armed with a gun.

The incident occurred around 8 pm yesterday at the couple’s Lot 875 Plantation Providence, EBD home.

Reports revealed that the incident erupted after the man became annoyed when his wife confronted him about an outside relationship he was sharing with another female. It was during this period that he reportedly doused her with kerosene and dealt her several blows about her body before threatening to kill her.

According to a resident who resides near the house where the couple lives, the man is known for walking around with the firearm in his waist. It was unclear if he is a licensed firearm holder.

A police source confirmed that ranks managed to arrest the man who reportedly disarmed himself and denied ever having in his possession any firearm.

Villagers related that prior to last evening’s incident, he had beaten his wife twice.

“We just heard a gunshot fire and when we watch out we see the man beating she and like she tried to get away and she fall in the grass and he come out and drag she back in the house”, one woman noted while stating that everyone was afraid to intervene since the man was armed.

The wife was also taken to the Ruimveldt police station to assist in investigations.

The couple is known to have regular arguments and had only recently moved to live in the community.
