Four arrested in Rubis murder case

Meticulous work by ranks attached to the major crime investigation unit operating out of CID Headquarters, Eve Leary has led to the arrest of four persons in the shooting death of Rubis Accountant Jason Cort, according to Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum who revealed that charges are likely to be laid early this week.

Stabroek News has since been informed that a man identified as the “mastermind” who was the one who singled out Cort as a target for robbery based on the jewellery he wore along with three others who later executed the robbery were arrested over a two day period. The planner was detained on Friday while the others were picked up the previous day.

Sources say that the three who carried out the robbery have since confessed.

Blanhum when contacted indicated that Cort’s phone which was among the items stolen has been recovered by police.

Based on what investigators have gathered so far the mastermind had observed Cort wearing gold jewellery and identified him as a target. The necessary information was passed onto his three accomplices who later confronted Cort in the bottom flat of his Meadowbrook home last Wednesday. This newspaper was told that one of the trio who was armed with a gun pointed his weapon at the young father of one and demanded his valuables. When he refused and instead proceeded to draw his firearm, the gunman discharged a round which struck Cort in the chest.

The gunman and his accomplices later fled with Cort’s phone, his licensed firearm, a sum of cash, a gold chain, a bracelet worth $500,000 and an XBOX console.

Following intelligence obtained the police were led to the three robbers and subsequently to the mastermind.
