Saxophonist Courtney Fadlin will be featured at this year’s Emancipation Jazz and Soul concert, which will be held tomorrow at the Georgetown Club.
According to a press release issued by Copa Airlines, Fadlin has been brought to Guyana on a return ticket sponsored by the airline, which has partnered with the organisers of the concert, SSignal Productions.
This year’s concert will focus on the contributions of several Black artistes in the jazz and soul genres, with tributes being paid to Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, Smokey Robinson, Sam Cook and Curtis King, among others.
Besides the featured artiste, Fadlin, American R&B recording artiste Sean Taylor and local musicians, such as Bassist George Reid, drum and pan specialist Michael Smith, keyboardist Trevor John and singers Charmaine Blackman and Bonny Alves, are also on the bill.
At a news conference on Wednesday, Alves, one of the SSignal Productions promoters, expressed gratitude to the airline for making Fadlin’s appearance a reality.
Fadlin, in brief remarks, said he intends to promote and encourage instrumental music in Guyana. He further underscored the correlation between the discipline passed on through music and stellar academic performances of children and added that this would auger well for Guyanese youth.
Fadlin, who is Guyanese by birth, graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music with concentration in saxophone performance. Fadlin is, however, competent on other musical instruments, such as flute, clarinet, piano and steel pans.
The concert commences at 6pm and tickets are available from Blackman, Alves or at the gate of the venue for the cost of $2,000.
