Mackenzie logger charged with attempted murder

A Mackenzie logger was yesterday remanded to prison after being charged with attempted murder.

Earnest Couchman, 60, of Mackenzie, Linden, appeared before city magistrate Ann McLennan and was not required to plea to the charge, which stated that on August 31st, at Mackenzie, Linden, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Victor Lustal, with intent to murder.

No further details about the charge were presented in court. However, Prosecutor Deniro Jones objected to Couchman being granted his pre-trial liberty because of the seriousness of the offence.

As a result, bail was refused and the matter was transferred to the Linden Magistrate’s Court for September 9th.
