Guyana Foundation receives large clothing donation for hinterland

The Guyana Foundation has received a container of clothing for distribution to hinterland residents from John and Leticia Homlish, owners of one of the largest garment manufacturing establishments in the Americas.

According to a press release from the Guyana Foundation, the donation is the largest it has received to date. It said the clothing, which includes hospital scrubs, was made available to Guyana via the Homlishs’ charitable arm of their business, the Maria Milagrosa Foundation.

The items will be distributed in the near future to needy communities in the hinterland, while the scrubs will be given to the Ministry of Health for distribution to remote Medex centres.

The donors had visited Guyana earlier this year and paid courtesy calls to President David Granger and Minister of Education Dr Rupert Roopnaraine through an arrangement with the Founder of the Guyana Foundation Supriya Singh-Bodden.

The release said Singh-Bodden expressed gratitude to the couple for their generosity, the Minister of Finance Winston Jordan and the Guyana Revenue Authority for the granting of a tax exemption of duty and VAT fees, and the West Coast Rice Farmers for the sorting and provisions of transportation for the donations.

The Foundation’s work includes distribution of donations to underprivileged families and communities across Guyana and it advised that anyone desirous of making a donation can contact its office at telephone number 276-3057 or guyanafoundation@gmail.com.
